Pokémon Pokopia features multiple ways to play with friends — from visiting islands to full 4-player co-op building and Pokémon trading.
Friend Visit
👥 2-4 playersVisit a friend's Cloud Island to explore their habitats, see their Pokémon, and collaborate on building.
- ✓Visit any friend's island via the Globe menu
- ✓Help friends build habitats faster
- ✓Interact with Pokémon on their island
- ✓Cannot take items or Pokémon from friend's island
Co-op Building
👥 2-4 playersWork together on one island in real-time. All players contribute materials and build simultaneously.
- ✓Up to 4 players build on same island
- ✓Materials from all players pool together
- ✓Speed up construction 4x with full team
- ✓Host player keeps all built structures
Pokémon Trading
👥 2 playersTrade Pokémon 1-for-1 with friends. Some Pokémon only evolve through trading.
- ✓Trade any befriended Pokémon
- ✓Machoke evolves into Machamp when traded
- ✓Haunter evolves into Gengar when traded
- ✓Onix evolves into Steelix when traded while holding Metal Coat

👥 2-3 playersShare your game with nearby Switch 2 players who don't own Pokopia. Limited feature access.
- ✓One game owner required
- ✓Up to 2 guest players can join locally
- ✓Guests can explore and interact
- ✓Guests cannot befriend Pokémon (owner only)
- ✓Online multiplayer requires full game ownership

Online multiplayer requires an active Nintendo Switch Online subscription.

Add friends via Nintendo account
Add friends through your Nintendo account. Their islands appear in your Globe menu.

Open the Globe
Press – to open the Globe menu. Select a friend's island to request a visit.

Host or join
You can host your island (up to 3 visitors) or visit a friend's island.
